Hotel Palomar
Washington, D.C.
One of the newest additions to Washington, D.C.'s stylish Dupont Circle neighborhood is the stunning Hotel Palomar, a luxurious and sophisticated urban haven that beckons guests to experience "Art in Motion."
JN+ A, Architect and Project Manager for the project, coordinated the design team for this complex conversion. Formerly a Radisson, the hotel underwent a complete renovation: its interior was demolished down to the structure, and major structural modifications were made to the existing building. The hotel received entirely new furniture, fixtures, and equipment to reflect its vibrant urban location.
The hotel's original lobby felt dim and dingy, with low, seven-foot ceilings. By removing the guestrooms above the lobby, JN+A created a two-story volume that provides a bright and beautiful architectural canvas for the unique artwork displayed there.
JN+A increased the hotel's total key count to 335 rooms (an addition of 80 keys) without adding additional square footage to the hotel by converting some of the old hotel's unusually-large single guestrooms into two rooms.
The team created business suites with an en-suite office for business travelers, fitness suites with a personal exercise room for the busy, health-conscious guest, and specialty suites with up to five connecting rooms designed to accommodate visiting diplomats and their families. This was an important item for the hotel due to its proximity to Washington D.C.'s Embassy Row.
The Palomar artfully merges urban style and sophistication with the classical environment of our nation's capitol, and it is suited to accommodate the wide variety of guests that Washington, D.C. attracts.
Urbana, a beautiful new restaurant with the concept of an urban wine cellar, was introduced in the location of the old restaurant.
